Fascinating and a skelly.

Working hard on commissions right now. This time of year is always so busy with Christmas, and Valentines and Easter deadlines looming. Soooo hard when all I want to concentrate on is Halloween.

Last year we woke up one morning to find this happy chappy on our front porch. We had a friend poll and decided to name him Porris Bentspine. He's going to become a regular in our Halloween front yard.

Maggs and I have also made some fascinators. These are adorned with FIMO skulls and black feathers. We also stuck in some beautiful flourist pins with rhinestone heads.

Here is a blurry close up so you can maybe see a bit better what we did. There is a hair clip hot glued onto the back.

Halloween Cookies......and a cake.

Here we have the table all set on Devils night for the Great Pumpkin to have a little treat. How come The fat guy in the red suit gets all the cookies huh?

We always try to make cookies and decorate them for the Howladays. The kids still love it, doesn't seem to matter how old or big they get.

Dracula cake! We loaded the cake itself with a whole container of red food colouring paste.
It was delicious!

Halloween Windows

We try to do this window idea every year using different silhouettes every time.

It's so cheap and easy and fast to do. You can save them and use them year after year or trash them and make more.
They are dollar store coloured plastic tableclothes cut to the size of the window. We added black plastic tablecloth silhouettes to the coloured plastic sheets. We used double sided tape to attatch the shapes and hang the pieces up.

We cut holes through both layers to show candle flames.

Visions of Halloween Past.

I have SOOOOOO MANY Halloween pictures and projects from the past. It is difficult to know what to post. So I'm going to just post things, without sorting them into categories. I like randomness!
Hope you do too.

This is Maggie's Obitsu BJD Gretel. She is always dressed for the holidays. Maggie makes sure she is lurking decoratively somewhere in the background.

Maggie's first prosthetic. We kept it simple. Made her a pair of latex ear tips and painted her metallic green. The ear tips are easy peasy to make. Just repeatedly dip and let dry a large plastic dollar store spoon into some liquid latex. Keep making layers and letting them dry until you have something that looks pointy. Peel the dry point off of the spoon and apply it to your ear with spirit gum and paint it out to match your skin tone.
and POOF! you're a Fairy!

Maggie's zipper eye from last year. She completed this look all by herself. She watched some tutorials online and went to town. (So PROUD!) She won a prize.

Sometimes We Have Unexpected Guests.

Maggie and her BF and I spent a good part of the weekend in the basement being all creatively Halloweenie. I was in the studio and the kids were watching a movie in the big room while playing with clay. After a while I needed a break so I got up to go see what the kids were up to and I found this in Maggie's hands.

Maggs said she's not sure what it is or even if it's a boy or a girl.

The little creature has wing feathers suspiciously the same colour and texture as Maggie's flying monkey wings. Maybe they're related?

I think the tiny tot has Maggie's hair!!!

On closer inspection, it seems to have some red on it's teeth. I think we need to build it a cage? I'm a little worried, what if these things start popping up everywhere? What do they want? Who sent them? Maggs says she hasn't got a clue.

Not Dead!

So.... I'm not dead. It has been a while since I've posted but I have a pretty good reason. I've had that pesky gallbladder removed. All went very well and I can eat again. I had another surgery eleven days after the gall bladder thingie and it has kind of knocked me on my bum. I am feeling pretty good again, just a bit tired. I am ready to get back to work! I can't tell you how hard sitting around doing nothing has been.

Here are the first of many HALLOWEEN nail designs!

I used Martha Stewart sparkles in orange and yellow mixed, and a black mineral pigment with sparkles I ordered from Nail de Royale. (I Love them!!!)

I made a 3D spider pet on my left thumb nail. I think she's cute.

Maggs helped me take pics. She thought we needed some gummie worms to make it more Halloweenie.

Maggs and I were bored today so we decided to make these!!!

Maggie's are the top pair and mine are the bottom.

We have wanted these shoes forever but couldn't afford to get both of us a pair and getting just one pair seemed unfair.

Our colours may be a little bright but we love them. These are mine.

These are Maggie's. Hers started out as black flats from Pay Less shoes for 20 bucks.

We still have to add some bows but aren't they cute?

Here are the new Gel Nails!!!!
first time using the gels. I've been using acrylic powder and liquid for two decades. I like the gels loads. No smell, not as much filing. I'll miss the 3D roses though have to figure that out. Maybe I'll use both.

I did every nail different. Wanted to experiment as much as I could.


HA! I still have green on me from the Zombie shoe painting, and it looks like Sebastien is interested in something across the road. Do you prefer gels or L&P?

Poop!

I'm Sick!!!

So... about three weeks ago I got a belly ache. It was different than any other belly ache I've ever had.... EVER! It felt like someone had transported a spike covered bowling ball under my ribs and was trying to pull it out through my sternum. I (being a big strong girlie) simply waited. Figuring I had gas or acid reflux or something I took some tums and walked the floor all night. Sitting or lying down wasn't happening. I had consumed a beautiful blue steak with potatoes and veg for supper and washed it down with some crunchy wasabi nuts, delicious!
So it was reasonable for me to believe I had heartburn. I don't know what heartburn feels like either by the way, I have been blessed up to now with a cast iron stomach.

Eventually it went away but I still had the heavy weird feeling under my ribs, like my food was just sitting there undigested for hours. I went to work, did all the usual things for the next week and then BAM! it was back.

I went to work anyway. It was a big day with supervisors and what not coming in, I felt I had to be there. I stayed for a half hour and then drove myself to the hospital. They did all kinds of tests hooked me up to monitors and gave me morphine through a drip to ease the pain and relax me and an ultrasound. After four and a half hours at the hospital, it stopped.

Turns out I have developed a gallstone!
If I had of went to the hospital in the first 72 hours of it happening, they could have removed my gallbladder through a little hole like pulling a chicken tenderloin through a McDonalds drinking straw, because I waited, my gallbladder now resembles a roast that has been cooking for three days. No way that's fitting through a straw!

Now I'm on a very restrictive diet, NO FAT!!! They're trying to calm down my gallbladder so they can pull it through that small hole they want to make. If they can't calm it down it means a seven day hospital stay or removal through a very LARGE incision.

So...... what I'm trying to say is.....

If you hurt, GO TO THE HOSPITAL!!!!
don't wait
just go see a Doctor.

3D acrylic nail art, White rose on blue tip.

NEW NAILZ!!!

got the new stuff I ordered.

I used Martha Stewart blue sparkles and clear sparkles, mixed in some blue crushed sea shells and aurora hex sparkles, then made white roses and encapsulated the whole thing.

I filed too close to my cuticles and cut them while removing my old nails. One of the reasons I want to try gel nails. They're supposed to be easier to soak off. My poor cuticles.

The video should help give you an idea of how I do these nails. I have worked in acrylic liquid and powder for about twenty years on and off. Just ordered a gel kit to see if it
is any different.
